We had a custom object that had a lookup relationship between the Account and Contact Object. Using the standard layout of the custom object, users can enter their Account ID and Contact ID using the lookup. But the lookup to the Account object and Contact object also has a ‘New’ button apart from the ‘Go’ button from which we can create new objects of that respective type which is a very good feature to have. This feature is only available or visible for the ‘Account’ and ‘Contact’ lookup relationship; it is not available for any other lookup relationship.

The disadvantages of this feature are: 

1. We can’t customize the layout that is displayed from the lookup window.
2. All the records created from the lookup window bypass the Validation rules i.e. Validation rules are not applied.
3. Creating a ‘New’ contact from the lookup window does not associate it to any account.

Hence, due to the above-mentioned disadvantages, we thought it would be a good idea to hide this button from these objects too.

To hide this button navigate to

Setup -> Customize -> User Interface and uncheck the option ‘Show Quick Create’Save the changes and it will now remove the ‘New’ button from ‘Account’ and ‘Contact’ Object’s Lookup as shown in the below screenshot –
