In Sage Intacct you can easily maintain a count of any dimension members say customer, vendor, product or employee. These counts are completely automated (as you update dimension say add/delete customer), useful for reporting or any other computation.
Imagine you have to track different type of customers you are dealing with. Here you wish to track number of active customers belonging to each category and then used them as a base for reporting so that you can get better insight of your business.
In this blog we will understand how to setup the count on dimension members and automate the dimension count posting (count update).
In below example we are setting up the count for different type of customers – Commercial, Residential and Corporate so that we can track number of active customers under each type.
The first step is to create a statistical account. Each dimension count is posted into separate statistical account.
Here we created separate statistical account for different type of customers – Commercial, Residential and Corporate.
In next step we will create dimension group. Since we are referring customer dimension we will create customer groups.
Here we will apply appropriate filters so that only qualifying members are attached to this group.
Finally will create dimension count rules with which system will update statistical account counts. Also we will choose the statistical journal. Dimension count transactions will be posted using this statistical journal.
Please note; after setting up the dimension count only newly updated entries are posted. You will have to enter a manual journal entry (statistical journal entry) to update the appropriate beginning balance.
Now to verify the result; add new customers and remember to assign customer type. You will notice that the count has been updated by the system.
