In this blog, we’ll cover how to configure and add Email Action to the Activity Tab by creating a custom Global Action. This enables users to add the email functionality to the page layouts of related objects. With this setup, users can utilize the ‘Send Email’ feature on Account, Opportunity, and Contact records via the email tab, simplifying recipient selection and email composition. Additionally, they can track their recent email activities.
Steps to create and Add Email Action to the Activity Tab through Custom Global Action
- Click on the “Setup” gear icon and go to Home.
- In the Quick Find search box, type “Global Actions” and press Enter.
- In the Global Actions section, click the “New Action” button.
- Select the Action Type as “Send Email” and the label Type as “Email.”
- Set the name you want to display in the Activity tab.
- Next, save the changes.
- After creating the Global Action, navigate to Object Manager and select the object for which the user needs the email action and add email action to the activity tab.
- Click on the Page Layouts section for that particular object, then drag and drop the Email Action into the “Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions” section.
- Save the changes of the page layout for and add email action to the activity tab.
- Go to the Lightning page of the Sales app or the app you are using where the object tabs are located.
- Click on the desired object.
- Check the Activity tab to see if the Email Action button is displayed and add email action to the activity tab.
- If the Activity tab is not on the page, edit the page from Setup and drag and drop the Activity tab onto the page.
- In the Email Action, users can use their email templates and add BCC to add email action to the activity tab.
- The user or owner can also see their recent activity and add email action to the activity tab.
- This Email Action type won’t work for the Case object. Refer to the link for more information. https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=000384646&type=1
- Similar to using the Global Action process, we can create and set other action types.
